Personal Note from Amanda
Last weekend we celebrated my sister, Samantha's college graduation. Sam is 10 years younger than I and all of these years I have enjoyed watching her grow up and discover her own path in life. She has a ticket for South America and is intending on exploring the world and then studying yoga!
Last Monday, Camp Williams 2008 began, an annual trip by Johnn's mom and dad, Sally and Ryan. This year Ryan and Stephen (my amazing stepdad) are tearing down our old deck and designing and building a brand new, state of the art deck, for Johnn and I.
Johnn's 85-year-old grandpa, Clendel, is here, too. He is an amazing fellow who has written several books and is always mentally engaged in reading, researching and writing. We are blessed to have him here. He hadn't been on a plane in 15 years and made the trek from Indiana in style.
And lastly, Saturday night we are hosting a big party in honor of the Snowbird Ski Patrol and all of the big hearts who have and continue to love us up during Johnn's recovery. It's going to be a blast!
Have a fantastic week!

Amanda

Mother Nature's Seven Best Sunscreens
By Amanda Moxley
Protecting yourself against the harmful effects of sun exposure goes well beyond skin deep. Eating a balanced variety of whole foods rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids protects both your skin and immune system from the free radicals produced from sun exposure. Following is a list of the best foods to help protect yourself against sun damage this summer, both inside and out.
- Chlorella
- Spirulina
- Carrots
- All berries: raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries
- Cold water fish, such as wild salmon and mackerel as well as fish oil and cod liver oil
- Flax seeds, walnut oil
- Reduce or avoid omega-6 vegetable oils (corn, soy, safflower and sunflower oil)

Three Reasons NOT to Use Sunscreen
1. Your body needs vitamin D to regulate cell growth. Sun exposure is your body's most readily available source of Vitamin D. Using sun block prevents the natural production of vitamin D in your body.
2. Vitamin D may also help prevent and treat several chronic diseases and conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, depressions, chronic pain, migraines, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy.
3. Commercial sun blocks contain a mixture of the following ingredients: oxybenzone, methoxycinnamate, PABA, benzophenone and triethanolamine. They prevent sunburn by absorbing the ultraviolet (UVB) rays. These ingredients are toxic chemicals that are absorbed through the skin and enter the bloodstream which can increase your risk of cancer.

What? Don't Use Sunscreen? What Can I Do?
1. Soak in the healing powers of the sun in the morning before 10 A.M. and again after 4 P.M. Reserve sunscreen to prevent sunburn during midday exposure in bright sunlight, when swimming, at the beach, and during snow sports. The sun is a healing ray; while too much of it is dangerous, too little of it is equally bad for your health. Remember that the amount of sun you need depends on the season, your skin color and the time of day. Take caution to never burn.
2. Use the sunblockers zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. You can buy these in creams and rub-on sticks at health food stores (Lavera, Dr. Hauschka, Aubreys, Badger, etc.) You can also use protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and stay in the shade.
2. Use raw organic coconut butter on your face and body to help hydrate your skin and absorb Vitamin D.
